Welcome to Happy On Chappy!

Ready for Summer?

Your vacation rental home while visiting Martha's Vinyard is waiting for you!

A five-minute ride on the "On Time," 3 car plus passenger ferry from the Edgartown dock takes you to Chappaquiddick, "an island off an island," with dirt roads lined with blueberry bushes and an area of frequent sightings of deer, osprey, otters, shorebirds, and turtles. Vacationers choose Chappy for the privacy and tranquility on this 6 by 3 mile spit of sand offers.  By bike or kayak, explore the sand dunes and tidal ponds, the glacial moraine, and the sand plain grassland habitats.  Fish for blues, bass, or bonito from some of the East Coast's best fishing places--the Gut, Wasque Point, and Cape Pogue. Enjoy the miles of unspoiled beaches accessible by 4-wheel drive.  Join one of The Trustees of Reservations Nature or Lighthouse tours.

The Chappy Cottage  and Guest Cottage are close to the Ferry to Edgartown as you can see on the map as well as Caleb Pond and the beach. What a Great Vacation Option!

Chappaquiddick is full of rugged beaches with unruly surf, 14 miles of over-sand vehicle and walking trails, as well as a 14-acre Japanese garden, Mytoi. The petite island's main draw is the Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge, the nesting area for a variety of New England shorebirds. Here you can take a naturalist-led, over-sand jeep tour provided by the Trustees of the Reservation. The reservation also offers Cape Poge Lighthouse, kayak and seaside exploration tours on a daily basis from Memorial Day through Columbus Day (mid-October). Recent visitors highly recommended taking a day, or at least a few hours, to explore the island. Whether you're on a bike or on foot, you'll find that "Chappy" (as it's referred to by locals) is a peaceful retreat from the crowds in Oak Bluffs, according to recent travelers. But this quiet seclusion comes with a notable downside: there are no stores or restaurants on the island, so you'll have to pack everything you need for the day before you step on the ferry.

The island has only 150 year round residents and 350 houses upon its 5 square miles, as well as numerous wildlife preserves and beaches. Chappy has a small country store which is only open in the summer.

The small, barge-like ferry (The Chappy Ferry)) shuttles between Chappaquiddick and the town of Edgartown, carrying 3 cars and passengers, a very ) long 3 minute ride! (http://www.chappyferry.net)  For thirty-seven years, the Chappaquiddick ferry was owned and skippered by a blind man. It has been struck by a seaplane, splintered by a hurricane, and burned by a mid-channel fire. The ferry served as the setting for a pivotal scene in “Jaws” (as well as a principal camera boat) and played a role in a tragic car accident that changed not only the undiscovered island of Chappaquiddick forever, but possibly American history too.

Chappaquiddick is known for miles of unspoiled beach. Hiking, biking, fishing and all the water sports you can dream of are available. Edgartown harbor is filled with fabulous boats from all over the world.  Sailing is superb due to the shore breezes. The MV Chamber provides a free brochure to plan your vacation. The Island is also known for the wonderful artists that fill the many shops and galleries with wonderful creations. Each of the 5 towns across the island have marvelous dining facilities and sweet shops abound. Farmers Markets, artisan shows, playhouses and evenings filled with every sort of music help to make this the perfect vacation spot for every one in the family.
